Billy Idol and Save The Music Visit Downey Middle Schools

Billy Idol teams up with the Save The Music Foundation and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation to surprise students at Doty Middle School and Griffiths Middle School in Downey, California, and announce a $55,000 music education grant. The Billy Idol Save The Music visit opens with students greeting the 2026 Inductee on campus and a student marching band, which rehearses every morning at 7 am, performing a version of “Rebel Yell.” Billy Idol then answers questions from students, including how his family reacted when he decided to pursue music seriously. Billy Idol says there are no rules in music and no qualifications beyond doing it, and that his parents were frightened because they loved him. John Sykes,
